Quick question about being fired/going to appeal = travel costs...........

DH was sacked from his job 2 weeks ago or so on very spurious reasons. He's told them he's going to appeal, however he's worried about how he's actually going to get to the appeal. He had a company car - which was obviously taken away, and they paid expenses.

The appeal hearing will be 3hrs (drive) away in Manchester (as that's where the "office" was - he worked from home and it was a home based job he had). Now he's worried about how he's going to get up to Manchester for the appeal - obviously he can't drive (as they took the car) and he doesn't have the money for the train.

Does his company have any responsibility to help with the travel costs - or is it going to be totally up to him to fund?? (which is a little tricky given that he's not going to be paid this month)

Venue/time etc must be "reasonable". If the employer applies the standard dismissal procedure in an unreasonable way then it would increase your dh's (wasn't he exdh?) award at tribunal.

Definitely worth him asking HR to fund his travel expenses. If they refuse, then follow it up with a request in writing as evidence for the employment tribunal.

well venue is 3hrs drive away (and 3hrs on the train too) - no alternative venues - that's where the company offices are and that's where the appeal is. He now has no car and train is going to cost around £70 for a return and he's quite worried about where he'll find that sort of money to get there.

Yes he was an exH - but we've been having another go of it since start of January - still living apart though - and will be for foreseeable future - we're going slow .

Will advise him to ask and follow up in writing
