Said I would go back in May, can I change my mind? What is the law?

I am on Mat leave at the moment and told work I would have the 6 months paid and then another 3 months unpaid, taking me to May. I have told them this twice.

However, I now may need to have another month or so off (childcare probs with dd1) to which I am entitled under maternity leave. But I don't want to mess them about and also, can they say no by law, is there a time limit to when you have to say you can go back?

They are a good company but I want to go in armed with the facts.

I think Pamina's right - but worth a call to the Maternity Alliance. They are the experts on maternity rights. Reduced to stupid AOL at the moment or would look them up for you but if you Google them you should get there.

dd2 getting her pesky hands all over the keyboard and dd1 wailing from upsairs, will have to go and check back later , no time to do anything in peace .
