Support thread for anyone facing redundancy/made redundant

Anyone...?

DH has been out of work for about 6 months. I have just been informed I'm likely to be made redundant in the next couple of months. I know it's a depressing subject but sometimes I feel as though we're the only people in this situation and I know we're not. Also, the news doesn't seem to be getting any better with 2 million of us expected to be registered as unemployed by next month.

So, anyone else out there want to join in a thread to try and generate some positive vibes. How are you managing the finances? Any signs of the job market improving? How do you explain it to the kids?

Hi JoandMax and Willworkforcake, sorry that sounded very cryptic - have been completely upfront with Mumsnet and not gone media route - but will pay fee, obv... but I want to do a piece for the Evening Standard - a tale of two recessions... I don't know about you but some of my friends are completely unaffected by the recession - anyone in the public sector with a safe job and a guaranteed pension is actually better off esp if their mortgage has gone down.
If you'd be interested in contributing, do let me know via email. Would just about pay for a nice lunch!

Thanks callme. I've already visited one school with a view to being a TA, but I didn't think it would work out at THAT school - no reason why I shouldn't try some of the other schools.

Hia Mary, fancy seeing you here, good luck with the job hunting. I just came on to say good luck to everybody.

My dh was made redundant nearly 2 years ago, he had been in the same employment for 36 years, 54 yo and can't read or write, we were desperate, but had to think quick on our feet. 3 kids 'n' mortgage, bills just like everyone else.

He set himself up as a self empoloyed gardener, never looked back. This time of the year is brill to start. I'd got him work, even before he left work

Must say he is knackered though! bless him!

So cheer up, there will be something out there for you, (if your're like us and not too fussy) money is admittedley 'hand mouth' existence, but we get the bills paid.

My DH was made redundant in dec and I work from home so we are currently surviving on very little. I am glad someone has started a support thread on here as there are days where I feel like we are the only ones struggling. Sending you all positive job vibes..
