Can anyone explain the 'HR Cycle' to me?!

Have interview for an area manager job where I would be managing a number of charity jobs. Not sure really why I have to do a presentation so HR orientated, as there is an HR dept. Anyway, have to talk about my understanding of the HR cycle, and have never heard of it before!

Blimey. I don't think I've ever heard that term tbh. I've just looked in all my books for you and there is no reference to it. Lots of high-faluting theories, but nothing called the HR cycle.

My best guess would be they mean more of a people management cycle, want you to identify the journey of someone's employment and where HR comes in. Not just hiring and firing but the in between bits as well. And I would guess they want you to identify where HR comes in in terms of what a manager does, rather than what the actual HR department do.

That's not much help sorry.

Ex HR manager here and I've never heard of it either! Sounds very jargony!

I would interpret it in the same way as flowery. Perhaps preface your presentation that this is your understanding just in case we're on the wrong track. At least they can follow your logic.

Good luck!

You could contact them and check. Say that you are taking it to mean the cycle of someone's employment and people management issues, systems and interventions that are involved at different times during that cycle, but if you are hugely on the wrong track could they tell you.

Sorry guys, been out all day, but a big thank you for taking time to answer! I 'googled' it and it pretty much means what you said flowery!

hi janeybooks, I came across the term doing an MBA so no surprise real HR people aren't familiar with it, is business school jargon!! I can't remember the details but if you use google scholar to search that might lead you to the theory!!
