Dilemma! Come and tell me what to do... Been offered a small promotion...

I have been with my new employers for nearly 3 months. I'm doing an admin role - it was something local and part-time to do after my previous job which was more high powered told me to get stuffed when I wanted to go back PT after DD.

Anyway, they have said that they would like to give me a small promotion as a stepping stone to the next role up which I'd really like to do as it is transferrable and not something I've done before.

Thing is I'm 8 weeks PG. I was going to tell them after the 12 week scan and am pretty embarassed as I'm so new. On the other hand I am doing admin so I'm not exactly irreplacable!

Should I tell them now and before the promotion is finalised? Or should I wait for the original plan which was to tell after 12 week scan?

What is the done thing here? They are really good employers and I don't want them to feel like I've messed them around.

Don't say a word till your promotion is finalised! Going on maternity leave isn't messing them around. It happens - congratulations btw. Tell them when you feel comfortable and I'm sure they will be happy and supportive.

Congratulations, on pg and promotion! Don't tell them yet. If your original plan was to tell them after 12 weeks then the fact that they want to recognise your abilities and contribution doesn't change that at all.

You've still got ages left until you'd be starting maternity leave so loads of time to make a good impression in your new promoted role without being any more disruptive than maternity leave is anyway.

That's brilliant - thanks for replying. I must admit I was erring on the side of telling them but the reasons not to do seem to be good ones.
