do employers have to start paying in Oct for people currently on mat leave or just those going on mat from Oct?

If the baby is due before 5 October 2008, then employers only need to pay for the first 26 weeks of their mat leave - but yes, this would include anyone who is on maternity leave.

If baby is due after 5 October 2008, then employers have to pay for the full 52 weeks (assuming there is no Occupational Pay for the vouchers to be deducted from).
