Hi All,

Looking for other teachers out there who have successfully gone back to work part time after Mat Leave. I’m currently full time and on Mat Leave. I plan to go back at the beginning of June next year. After my first was born I had to go back full time but then Found a job that was part time (4 days) once my daughter went to school I went back to full time. However I really don’t want to go back full time as teaching is so full on and although I get the holidays, term time is so busy and I felt I missed a lot with my daughter when she started school.

So I want to go back part time. I feel four days wouldn’t give me enough time with my children and 3 days may not be enough financially so I’m wondering if anyone does 3 and a half days with the half day being PPA at home? My current mat leave cover is doing 4 days but her PPA is paid on her ‘day off’ so technically she’s being paid for 4.5 days.

Any thoughts or opinions on this would be greatly appreciated

xx

My mat cover- unknown to the school- said she couldn’t do 5 days only four and they offered her four and said she could take ppa at home.

I feel like four days a week plus school holidays is pretty balanced but presumably you can ask for 3.5 days and if they say no make it 4? I think the half day working from home may not be something a manager will grant unless you are exceptionally highly regarded?
(Not relevant to your situation but I was corporate and worked 5 days a week with 6 weeks annual leave once I bought extra, this wasn’t ideal but it still worked.)
