Should I report colleague for doing class A?

There is a work colleague, he works within the NHS and he has been seen doing class A drugs.
I am aware this happens, but to be so open and brazen about it has really ticked me off.
He is also know to bully and harass younger, female colleagues and has a generally bad attitude.
I am half way between trying to mind my own business and feeling I should stand up for what’s unacceptable behaviour.
advice appreciated

If I observed drug taking or bullying or harassment at work, I would report it.

If I didn’t witness it myself or it was outside of work, I’d leave alone. If someone else told me they had witnessed it, I would encourage them to report. I would not act on rumour.

You’d need concrete evidence not just whispers and gossip.

MellowSubmarine · 18/10/2026 09:52

I wouldn’t report drug use I hadn’t seen (and that I’m assuming wasn’t at work).

If I’d seen the bullying, or been told about it by someone who he’d bullied, I’d do a confidential report.

Tbh the drugs sound like the least worst part.

SockPlant · 18/10/2026 09:54

if you have seen it with your own eyes report it, bullying, drugs (as long as against your rules at work) etc. Then let it go

Unless you saw him yourself, do not report because this is gossip/hearsay.

He is also know to bully and harass younger, female colleagues and has a generally bad attitude.

Again, unless you witnessed or were the victim of any incident yourself, do not report because this is gossip/hearsay

If he's openly doing it at work then yeah I guess I'd say something.
But if you've noticed them surely others must have? If you literally saw him ingesting it?
People do things like that recreational but if it's getting to the point when you're just openly doing it in the workplace that's a serious issue.

BelleEpoque27 · 18/10/2026 10:01

At work? Absolutely yes, if you saw it. In his own time? No, none of your business. Obviously it's not ideal, but he's entitled to his private life.

Bullying, yes of course you should report if, again, you've witnessed it.

ParsonMaybold · 18/10/2026 10:01

If he’s doing it at work, report it. If it’s outside of work - it’s not your business.

ColadhSamh · 18/10/2026 10:03

Get your evidence. Any random drug tests carried out at your place of employment?
The bullying and harassment of younger colleagues needs to be dealt with urgently. Whistleblower policy? Start documenting evidence now. Are others aware but ignoring? In other words enabling and colluding with abuser.

My approach with stuff like this is, I raise with my line manager the impact that the rumours are having on me and my role.

So it’s not gossiping and it’s not turning a blind eye, just being straightforward.

3luckystars · 18/10/2026 10:06

Unless he actually does it in front of you, off your desk, then you are just gossiping.

Don’t do it.

MissMoneyFairy · 18/10/2026 10:30

If you have evidence report it, especially if it affects patient care or safety

User454545454546565 · 18/10/2026 10:58

Don't worry, he'll trip himself up soon. There'll be weird or manic behaviour or inappropriate comments so you can report that as soon as you see it, or some one else will.

Hope he gets sacked asap.

Minasama · 18/10/2026 11:00

If he is in a clinical position or his actions could impact patients or safety I would report it - though make clear if you are reporting that you have seen him do it or that he has talked about it (document his comments and dates.)
