Am I just wanting too much from my job.

Firstly I have been working in this job for about a year and a half and in many ways it is just right for me. I have flexible working hours, I work part time, its very near where I live and the pay is good. The job itself is dull and extremely pointless and I have zero job satisfaction. I can not afford to quit or even take a wage cut but I am getting so fed up. To top it off I have a colleague who has terrible mood swings and can make it a really unpleasant environment. I want a change and a new job but I don't know what I could do that would give the same rate of pay and the same part time hours. So am I expecting too much? Should I just put up and shut up and be grateful for the benefits or should I look for something that will be more enjoyable that may not have the same benefits?

Zero job satisfaction is not at all good, and coupled with the unpleasant colleague it's even worse.

It depends what's important to you. If the flexible working, hours, location and pay are really crucial, you may have to stay. You could try and address the issues you have there to make it a bit better. Can you ask for more responsibility, involvement in projects that interest you or anything at all to give you a bit of satisfaction? Can you talk to your manager about your colleague, or to your colleague him/herself?

If you can cope with a bit of a compromise you could put your feelers out and see what's out there, you are not losing anything by having a look.

Thanks flowery, I have had a little look but I haven't found anything that really appeals. Pay is crucial because we could not afford to live on less money. Hours I would be more flexible but I can not increase too much more as I need to look after my son who has ASD and location I dont mind too much. I just dont know where to look really because Im not sure what I want to do. I have never really been career minded but Im sure I could get stuck into a job that I enjoy.

I'm intrigued to know what it is you do that is totally pointless??!

Personally, I would have to find something else; I just couldnt bear to spend a significant chunk of my life doing something of no worth.

Well really I work just for the money. It really is a pointless job I dont want to say too much incase I identify myself to someone who might know me.
