Colleague always checking on my work

I'm absolutely dreading going back to work on Monday and hoping for some advice on how I can myself through this situation.

My job is office based and I have a colleague who is constantly checking my work. They don't manage me and there are only occasional things we both work on. I get messages daily, sometimes multiple times a day, checking my deadlines or approach or they will answer for me in meetings or on teams. I've clarified multiple times that I don't find their approach helpful, and have said I find it disruptive. We've had team meetings where this has been raised but their behaviour is getting worse. I have consistently excellent feedback from colleagues across my department and there have never been any performance concerns about me.

Forward every message to his manager and yours and tell them to make him stop. Every time.

@DoorOpening thanks - I've been doing that but things are actually getting worse.

Stop pussyfooting around.

Launch a grievance - appears you have evidence OP. Use it.

Does this person have friends in high places? That's the only thing that would make me pause. I've had people interfere in the past, but seemingly (half!) on behalf of our mutual manager.

If you can find a polite way to point it out, you should also tell her that micromanaging is a form of bullying.

This would infuriate me.

Answer every single email with 'Why do you need to know?' and copy in your manager and theirs to all of them.

shalalalalalalalala · 17/10/2026 18:52

Just delete the emails and do not respond. If they have an issue they can email your line manager

The very first message you get from them on Monday morning send a reply saying

John, as we discussed this constant checking with me about matters that are of no concern of yours is distracting, impertinent, and unprofessional. I will be ignoring any further communication.

Copy your manager and HR and put a block on his/her messages so they are automatically forwarded to a folder you don't check.

Delegate something to them if they've got spare time on their hands?

Sounds like you have to be really direct, which might come across as rude, but so they get the hint - just a 'not sure why you need to know' or 'if you've got s concerns with sny of my work please raise it eith my manger as I dont appreciare your input' type thing?

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 18/10/2026 22:28

Go grey rock. Either ignore them or say, what's it got to do with you?' on repeat. Do not answer any questions! I'd also report to managers every time.

Why are things getting worse even after you have raised this with your manager? Your manager should have come down hard on this person.
