Does anyone work annualised hours?

Does anyone annualised hours? My new job is warm to flexible working, I was going to go for compressed hours and work a 9 day fortnight but it would be happy for me to look into this.

I am interested in any patterns people have. I think I have worked out that if I work 40hs instead of 37 every week I will get an extra 14 ish days AL a year. That is a game changer and would mean I have almost all school hols off.

Indeed to calculate it properly but am wondering if anyone else can tell me their pattern.

I do, but also part time. So on a basic level I work 3 days per week, but I work 9 extra days a year in term time and take them.off in the holidays. This works out at half a day every 2 weeks (I do half days as extra to fit around school runs). It gives me an extra 3 weeks holiday that I used mainly in the summer holidays, saving my normal leave for the rest of the holidays.

How have you worked out the annual leave?

If you do 40 hours over 5 days you lose 8 hours for each days leave including BH.

I have an annual working pattern, I’m contracted and paid for 18hrs per week, but for the majority of the year work 4 x 5hr days each week, I then have 4 weeks off that fall during half terms, so with my AL entitlement I’m nearly always off while the children are. It works well for me.

who will do your work for the summer weeks youre off? i think unless that can be covered youre unlikely to be allowed to do that.

we are only allowed to have a certain number of hours saved up and then we need to take them or lose them (alrhough that never happens, we use the time up)

This is a good point and worth thinking about. I am lucky to work in a role that is quieter in holiday times. I still agreed a plan for the summer that meant I was 'in and out' in the summer and others were in during my longest chunk off (2 weeks), so there was leadership cover for my team.

My friend does this, he works at an airport. He very often has the majority of one of the winter months off.

I compress 37 hrs into 4 days it works for us
