Client wanting me off a project

I’m in the latter half of my career. I always used to do well but recently found myself made redundant and I got a new job in a small company so contribution matters. It could be a very interesting job but I know
the culture is unforgiving as staff seem to ‘disappear’. It started off well as I had a contract with a company in my wheelhouse of expertise. That ended after 10 months due to the company closing down projects (failed drug) and now back in the fold of the company. I now have several clients but one now wants me off their project and my colleague back on. My colleague had been give a full time job with another company so his isn’t ideal for my colleague or for me. I’m now concerned for my job knowing the culture etc. equally I don’t really like the culture and while I’m looking for other jobs I simply have to brush myself off and see what happens. I need the money but feel I’m only just surviving and not thriving. Is it an age thing? I feel so rubbish and crap and wish I could retire. Or at least take a break.
we have debts and many outgoings with kid at uni and supporting their hobbies. Anyone going through similar ands started living again!

If your kids are adults at uni, could they not get a part time job to support their own hobbies? Seems like it's time they started contributing.

Try not to be ground down by the job, and keep looking for more openings. Sounds like it's a toxic environment, and you will feel successful and valued again when you find a better company.
