Vent. Micromanaging manager. Taking leave.

Help me Jesus.
I have been working for many decades. I am professional and senior.
I have been in my current role less than a year.

Here is how booking 1/2 a days leave went.

Tuesday.
Ask manager.
He says yes and then tells me what step I need to do next. I already know what to do.
I do the next step: official request via electronic platform. This sends request to manager, who approves it. I am notified of approval. HE DOES NOT NEED TO TELL ME HE HAS APPROVED IT AND THEN TELL ME THE NEXT STEP. He does anyway.
I do the next step - add to calendar, add to a running document and a meeting agenda.

Today.
A day before the leave I then need to msg the whole team. I do that and then MANAGER ASKS ME TO DO STEPS I'VE ALREADY DONE.

3 times he told me what I needed to do. He has no reason to believe I won't follow the process.

And FFS SIX steps and multiple places to log the leave.

Venting here because I want to yell at him.

My last manager was like this.

Is he the type who will continue even if you say "I understand the process, thanks"?

All this for what, 3-4 hours leave?

Ah corporate procedures. Heaven forbid something wasn't documented, we might have to trust people!

I've not worked in this sort of environment before.
It's oppressive. We have to account for every piece of work we do on a daily basis. The manager has been to wanky business buzzword classes.
It's all false "thank you"s and "that's an excellent question".

I don't need to be repeatedly thanked for doing my job, and asking questions is just normal, and not all of them are excellent, some are just regular "shall I add that to to the meeting agenda?" type thing.

I suppose I should be thankful that this is the first time I've felt like this in about a job in over 30 years. I enjoy the work. Most of the others on my team are great.

It’s not just the environment, it’s how your manager is in that environment. We had one of these once, he left with a ‘compromise agreement’ and now we do it once, the sensible way. It’s bliss and I rejoice each time I do it the sensible way xx

Oh I had one of these. You have my sympathy. Thankfully not my manager, just an extremely annoying colleague. He once sent me an email with step by step instructions on how to set up a very simple excel spreadsheet.

he thankfully left but he’s still spoken about. He also loved cringy office jargon. He used it to deflect when he was out of his depth. Once famously said in a meeting “let’s put that on the back burner and light it up again when I have the mental bandwith” 🙄😂 I mean? Really? 😂

He changed a meeting time earlier this week, BEFORE I asked for my leave.
He then claimed he had changed the meeting because I would be off for the usual meeting time.
I nearly had to pull up the communications just to prove my point. He's reducing me to being as pernickety as he is.
