Just as the title says really, struggling so much returning after a years maternity leave. I often can’t concentrate as lm thinking about my baby and feel a yearning to just be at home with her, holding her and playing games with her. every day and morning feels like a struggle and I count down the hours until i can see her at the end of the day. financially not working isn’t an option for me and i don’t feel i can ask for reduced hours until i’ve passed my probation. at the moment working just feels at a huge conflict to my sense of purpose and i feel low most of the time even at weekends dreading the next week and leaving her. any advice welcomed in how I can reframe this or make jt work better. it’s a full time hybrid corporate role

Oh I remember that feeling so well... I found it really hard. I just kept telling myself that I was doing this for my child. It will pass and you will be glad you did this in the long run. It is a sacrifice for you, no doubt, but if your child is well cared for, you are doing this for them and you will be very glad you did it, despite how hard it is atm. Hybrid role is great. And you may have other children in the future. Securing a good job keeps your options open and the possibility of part time in the future. And you will be focused on making the absolute most of all the precious time you do have with her. All best, it does get easier.

What do you think your chances of getting another job would be like? Could you leave this job (presumably this would be easier if you're still on probation) and search for something else with part time hours?

If it feels wrong to you, there's a chance you may always feel regret about it.

Finances and practicality can't be ignored, of course, and only you know what is really possible. Good luck.
