New (internal) job and just found out I’m pregnant

Hi all, I accepted a new job last week which is an internal move, and I’ve just found out I’m pregnant! Mega early, about 3 weeks

I knew this was obviously a possibility as we’ve been TTC for about 4 months, but I decided I didn’t want to put my career on hold while trying and went for a job opportunity that came up at work and had no idea how long it would take us to get there.

It’s internal so my continuous service carries over (I’ve been with the company 10 years), but it’s a completely new department/area and a big company, so I’ll obviously still need to work hard, learn everything and prove myself.

I’ll be about 8 weeks (all going well of course) when I start and I’m already sick with nerves. I’m worrying about starting somewhere new and then having to tell them I’m pregnant not long afterwards!

Has anyone else been in this situation? How did you find starting a new job when you were pregnant, especially so early on? Did you tell them fairly early or wait until you’d settled in?

First of all, congratulations!!!!

I was in this position, I landed a significant promotion that was a stretch for me and then fell pregnant.
I was worried as I had a male boss who was married to the job and I was concerned it gave the impression I wasn’t grateful/serious about the role.
i decided not to tell work until about 20 week. I formulated a plan for my leave and made it clear that I was in the role for the long haul.
You’ve served the company for many years and ultimately, we’re all replaceable - family is more important.
look after yourself, work hard, and remember that there are laws and internal policies in place to support you.

Continue as you are and dont tell anyone until you're ready. So much can happen in early pregnancy so you just need to go with the flow.
You are one of the most protected employees being pregnant so tey and relax. Personally, I'd wait until 20 weeks (which I think is the legal limit) to inform your employers if you can manage that long!

40 years ago I got an internal promotion, large national firm. All well and as very healthy worked for 8 months before leave. So was well into new job before leave, my mat leave was covered , went back and three years later had a second. Progress in career went well and as part of a long career not significant Probaly delayed my rise through the ranks a little but all ok and retired on fab pension.
Have faith op you will be fine and this is completely normal,

yes many of us have been there. I TTC for 2 years, eventually moved jobs as hated my old job and didn’t know if I would ever get pregnant. Obviously fell pregnant in first month.

dreaded telling them but honestly was all fine. It all worked out and is now just a memory .

it will all work out ok don’t worry!

Don’t tell them until 20 odd weeks unless you need to for OHS adjustments.
