Pay parent for cleaning

How much would you pay a family member to clean your house?

My Mum always offers to clean the house while I’m away on holiday. She has done this a few times & I always give her money, even though she says she doesn’t want any.

The house was horrific prior to it being cleaned and I know it would’ve been a lot of hard work.

She was cleaning for around 6 hours. How much would you pay?

As a mum who has done this for my DC a few times - nothing. Be sure to say thank you but when she says she doesn't want payment she means it. If my DC were to insist on paying I wouldn't do it again.
I would appreciate a bunch of flowers occasionally though.

As a parent I couldn’t take any money from my adult child.. on the other hand I don’t think I’d clean for 6 hours! I would probably just pay for a cleaner as a treat.

Sorry, I should’ve given a bit more info really.

She says she doesn’t want any money, but she definitely does. She normally says she doesn’t want any prior to cleaning, but when I give it to her afterwards, she takes it straight away and just says ‘you’re silly, I didn’t want any’, but doesn’t try and hand it back or anything.

I told her I would give her some money on payday and she said payday would be fine. So she hasn’t said the usual ‘I don’t want any money’.

So I’m just trying to work out what a reasonable amount is.

Tbh I know most people’s parents wouldn’t take any cash, but I do appreciate the help and I know she doesn’t have much money, so it helps us both out. I mean I don’t have any money either atm. I’m on maternity leave with my 3rd and she knows I have nothing coming in but nvm.

what would be a reasonable amount to pay for 6 hours?

6 x £15 = £90

If you want a figure, but, like others, it seems a very odd arrangement.

If I do something for one of my adult dc, I do it to help them out. Potentially to save them from paying a cleaner in your case. I think if you are hoping to receive money off a family member for doing something for them, you need to be clear upfront that is what you are offering, and see if the recipient (ie you) actually wants to employ someone to do that work for them.

£100

Does she clean to a good standard? If so I'd give her the going rate for a deep clean, so £20per hour.

Although my mum wouldn't take money from me, she also wouldn't clean my house 😂

Our cleaner is £20ph, that seems pretty normal in our area.

My mum cleans for me. I was going to hire a cleaner, she offered as she was looking for a second job anyway.
Going rate for a cleaner here is approx £20p/h but she refused that much. I pay £25 for 2 hours each week and I think we both think
we’re getting the better deal.

I would pay her a higher amount than less and ignore any comments from her.
