I started a school centred teacher trainee placement two weeks ago. I found out - after I had been offered a place on the PGCE - that I have Crohn's.
during the summer I appear to have found a way to manage the worst of my symptoms but in the last week the return to very early mornings and long days appears to have played havoc with my digestive system.
my school placement requires me to observe 14 hours a week and some days I'm not in lessons until much later in the day.
I feel I may need to tell someone but I don't want anyone to think of me as an 'ill' person. I've had this for years and managed to run half marathons, have a full time journalism career and even help a partner with mental health problems. I'm fairly capable but in the last two weeks my body has been giving me little signs it's not happy.
I don't want to quit this course but there is another big consideration. Travelling in later two mornings a week would save me £30 a week on travel as I have to go by train. There used to be a bursary with my subject but I've had to take out a loan to cover tuition fees abd a loan to cover my expenses. I did have done copywriting work lined up before I started the course (worth around £1k a month) but the company decided to make cut backs and redundancies so that work will no longer happen. They told me last week. I'm really thinking of quitting - I don't want to be a problem but I feel dreadful at the moment.
