Civil service - To take the full time job after years at home?

I’ve been a stay at home parent for 7 years. Now kids are in school I was thinking about going back to work. I applied to a civil service job that appealed (skills etc aligned with my previous work experience) just to see how far I could get ie practice but I actually got an offer.

im surprised and pleased I got it. But now confused as its full time(no part time offered) and I’m wondering if I’ll be able to manage full time work with child care responsibilities (no real wrap around, husband has long commute and strict hours so not much help there). It’s flexible hours though.

anyone else been in a similar boat and went back to work full time after years being at home. How did you find it? Glad to do it or found it too stressful.

i have an interview for a part time role too lined up. I think easing myself in is best but what if I don’t get that one. Just take the full time or will it be too stressful? Pretty confused as you can tell from my ramblings!

Many parts of the civil service will per it a 4 day week on request - it would be worth seeing if they'll consider that. They don't usually want to accept fewer hours than that though

I would say don't dismiss it without asking. Where I am we can have even term time working.

I went back after 7 years to fulltime work. It’s difficult to juggle everything but I’m glad I went back. I think civil service want all staff in the office 40% of the time so if that is doable for you - go for it. And congratulations.
