Background checks

Evening is anyone familiar with a company called sterling that carry out background checks. I’m curious about what they ask if it’s just dates you were employed or anything more. I’m happy for them to contact previous employers but I’m used to just providing good references rather than random HR people

They will be checking that your employment history is accurate rather than contacting references to ask about you.

We have used companies to do background checks on recruits - we specified the level of checking and paid accordingly

Currently undergoing a background check with them. I think if varies depending on the company they are working for - your future employer will have purchased a package with varying levels of depth/detail.

for me there was an online questionnaire- employment history going back 5 years, residence, education. I think 90% of it is checking against online databases and then they sent a questionnaire to my current employer to verify dates, etc. I have been told it is ~ 2 weeks to complete for my role.
