Commission only... What do you think of this job advertisement?

I have an M.A and a degree-equivalent diploma in a different subject, but I am in a very low-paid job due to a comedy of errors and am always looking for something better. Came across this, but I feel commission only is just too risky to leave my permanent, secure position, crap pay or no crap pay.

Wondering if I could do it around my current role and see what happens, maybe drop a day at current role if it goes well. What would you think of it?

I would be suspicious of this - it’s essentially a basic sales job. If they were financially stable and had a good product they would be paying a salary plus commission on top.

Sounds like a scam to me

They’re not a charity. They’re a product line that wants to be sold to charities and other companies that support older adults. They’re not helping the older adults themselves they’re just selling things aimed at that market.

Yeah, don't quit a job for that. Its a terrible job and a terrible time to get charities engaged- who has the money for that?!

Sounds like a massive employment tribunal waiting to happen.

They’re bypassing NMW by claiming you’d be self employed. They can’t even give an estimate of commission. I genuinely can’t think of a reason why anyone would think this is a good idea.

The Charities Commission don’t endorse any role that has commission or bonuses associated with it.
