NHS pre employment checks

does anyone here work in NHS HR

what do pre employment checks actually involve . Wander why it’s taking so long??? What do they do with old jobs qualifications , occy health etc

I work “with” NHS HR as in our department recruit and I manage staff and they do the associated paperwork

DBS times it’s like how long is a piece of string - some come back a lot quicker than others, hold ups include if people have changed their names or have worked abroad or have moved house a lot as it’s more to be checked. We did one back In May it came back within about 4 days but at this time of year owing to lots of academic roles being recruited into for the new academic year this can take longer during July/August/September.

References - again depends on how quicky the referees reply to the email.

Qualifications and Membership of Professional bodies take time to check and if people can’t produce all their certificates they are given time to contact examining boards to acquire replacements. Our Trust is quite particular and if a job said needs GCSE maths and you say you have it they can and have been known to ask for the certificate, even if you’re in your 40’s or 50’s. I had a lady who had to order a replacement RSA Typing certificate she had lost! This was a HR decision and not the departments.

Occy Health - they usually do a paper questionnaire first but then may wish to do a f2f assessment and the timing for this depends on how busy they are, how many appointments a week they can facilitate or some larger trusts also outsource this and they may then send you a link to complete and book a slot.

Lots of differentials.

Thanks- what happens with certificates once they are handed in? Also I handed in my dbs four weeks ago and still waiting!

Would it help if I contacted the examining board to move things along or is it not a case of that

NHS recruitment is notoriously long winded it can take months to get into post.

The certificates are all verified with the candidate number and certificate number

You would only need to contact the examining board if you stated on your application that you have a certificate say gcse maths/ rsa typing/ BA Hons business etc and you can’t produce the evidence to prove this

you wouldn’t need to contact them otherwise

Re DBS - 4 weeks is nothing they can take a lot longer for reasons listed above

This is fine with my degree but none of this is on my additional qualification (it was essential for the job but a local qualification!!!) oh no :( what will that mean sorry stressing and thanks for you help

The nhs trust have the right to ask for evidence of any of the qualifications you have listed in your application. Same with professional memberships.
when you say “local qualification” do you mean a qualification you did abroad? Are you an international applicant?
