Offered shorter hours for less pay and feeling torn about leaving

hi,
I need some advice as I’m completely torn. My current job is 9.25 hours a day and 1 Saturday morning a month .

Ive been offered a new job that is 7.5 hours a day and no weekends. So in total id be working 40 hours less a month - the pay is £2k less than what im on but a potential to earn bonus.

im torn on what to do - one of the reasons is my partner works with me and I know it sounds silly but im going to miss him. Im also worried ill hate it and ill regret my decision . I also dont want to let my team down by leaving them.

the main reason for me looking was the long hours and the nature of the job not because I hate the place I work or who I work with.

im just so torn - any advice please?

Can you afford to loose 2k a month? Does the new job have better prospects? I’m assuming you don’t have kids

@ToKittyornottoKitty its 2k over the year so £120 a month and yes I could manage it

As it sounds like your new job doesn't include evenings or weekends could you go on a relief pool/zero hour contract in your old job and still pick up the odd shift? That way you will be keeping in touch and if you don't like the new job they might have you back.

Do you think you will enjoy the work at the new job? Is there scope for progression?

yes I think you’d be mad to not take it if that’s what you mean. That’s only £3 an hour. And you could earn a bonus too. But if you don’t want to leave your work place can you go to them and tell them you’ve been offered something else and try to negotiate

Can you negotiate better hours in your current job?

@Greenclass it would be £120 after tax and about £30 a month more in fuel .

@Crispynoodle ive tried to do this before but it takes months to get everything sorted and it gets forgotten about

I’d take the shorter hours personally. £2k sounds like quite a lot written down but the difference in your actual take-home probably isn’t huge. Stick both salaries into actualsalary.co.uk and compare the monthly figures. 40 hours back every month is massive.
