Been job hunting for ages it’s been dreadful and I applied for lots for jobs.
It’s been the most soul destroying and depressing time as I’ve been out for a year due to the horrific job market.
I’ve been offered a job it’s temp and low pay compared to what I was earning. It’s far from my dream job but it’s a job.
I accepted but I’ve not started yet.
I’ve had an interview come through this week for a job it’s perm job and better paid. I think I’ve a good chance with this role.
Do I go ahead and start the temp role?

i feel for you the job market is wild atm - I recruit for nhs admin and for roles we maybe previously got 10 applicants for there is often over 100 and a lot of them really over qualified for the jobs but clearly struggling to find roles in their own job area - this can be off putting to a recruiter as they are often worried that they will clear off when they find their dream job.
id say take the temp job as literally anything could happen with the other one - nothing is guaranteed and if it’s temp they’ll be well aware that people will be considering their options.

Yes I would. If It’s only a temp role they will know you will be continuing to look for employment. The “temp” bit works both ways!
Anything could happen with the other job. Even if you get offered it sometimes it can take a couple of months to actually get started.

Yes, start the new job as it’s only temp which you can usually leave with 2 weeks notice. Imo any earnings is better than zero income even if it’s less than your usual rate. It’s good you’ve got an interview for a permanent role and you’re confident you’ll get it. You can continue in your temp role while all the onboarding etc is done which usually takes a few weeks anyway. Good luck and don’t forget to update how it goes!

I’m in a similar position, I would take the temp job. Soul destroying part is utterly horrible and doing something would lift your mood and purpose if you are feeling anything like me . I wish you all the luck with your interview!

Thank you, it’s really taken its toll on me emotionally, financially everything…I’ve been at a very low ebb.
I’m in my mid 50s and thought I’d never work again in my profession tbh.

Yes I'd take the temp role and see what happens with the potentially better job.

Hey @Whyowhyhey I’ve not started the temp job yet . Delays in getting it signed off.

Due to start next week now.

Had the perm interview today and it was v lacklustre the interviewers weren’t engaging in the least just firing questions one after the other.

I’m a lot older than them I think 🤔. It felt flat and tedious for want of a better way to explain it. I did at one point think wtf 😳.

i don’t know anymore 😕, I need work but neither feel good.

Neither of the jobs inspire me 😔. I think am just so worn down with job hunting and the toll of that I’m not on a good headspace.

The whole job search really takes it’s toll. Hopefully something comes up soon, this job might not be what you want but it might give you a push you need in the right direction.

I was exactly in your situation and took the temp job. The week I started I was offered a more permanent role by another company. They wanted me to start a month later. It all worked out.

Unless someone is in the current job market without a job they haven't a clue how difficult it is. Well done for persevering and good luck with the temp role
