NHS references/OH

Hi,

I have received an NHS job offer which I am really pleased about. I have had the conditional offer come through and in the process of pre employment checks.

I am currently out of work as my previous contract ended with the nhs due to maternity cover and I decided to have a bit of a break.

I am worried about the references/sickness record. I had an extended period of time off at the end of last year, totally 39 days and then another couple of general sickness absences prior to this. I returned to work at the beginning of this year and had no further days off. I have completed the OH form and been given a telephone assessment but that’s not for another 6 weeks.

I just wondered whether anyone had any advice/has been in this situation?

As long as you can explain it, it’s not likely to reoccur and you weren’t let go because of your sickness record I wouldn’t worry.

i got a job as 8a, not long after id had 2 separate months off for losing 2 pregnancies that year. I explained the absences they were fine. I was 12 weeks pregnant the day i started the role (but wasn’t pregnant at point of interview/accepting, and with history,‘I just assumed I’d lose it again). She’s currently a 7 year old swimming around the pool on holidays . Never had any bother with sickness absence since, despite picking up every bug my 3 bug prone kids have gotten!
