Redundant AGAIN!

Not sure why I'm writing this, maybe I just need to vent, and I can't get to sleep.

Made redundant last year from a role I loved, spent around six months applying for jobs against 100s of other applicants in my profession. Finally found my dream job, worked really hard and just been told my role has been made redundant less than 6 months in. I'm back to square one.

Dreading the entire job searching again, spending months hoping for interviews and job offers, and worried how it looks on my CV, even though neither occasion was my fault, just cost-cutting from the organisations. Sadly I think my role is one of the first to go, when looking to save money short term, rather than seeing what I do as a long term investment for the business.

I’m sorry, that sounds really hard. Being made redundant is not a reflection on you. I saw someone say on here that you haven’t been made redundant- it’s your role that has been made redundant. Hopefully, that will give you some comfort. I’ve been doing interviews this week and would not count it as a negative at all. Hopefully you will find something quickly this time. X

What industry are you in?

Yes, still in probation period, but the reason I've been given for letting me go is that my role has been made redundant.
I know it's a cost - cutting exercise and not a reflection on me, but it's still very hard to take , knowing how hard it was to find a job last year.

I'm on my third... solidarity.

Would retraining for a more secure type role be a possibility? I know that takes money so may not be possible, but it seems that certain jobs are much more at risk now.

How long In previous role before redundancy? Same industry?

I will consider this. I love what I do, but have to be realistic if the jobs just aren't available

My latest was from the public sector. All that the security gets you is a more generous payout, which is nice but if the period between jobs is longer...

This happened to me a few years back.

I moved to a new city to be with an ex, got a job and 7 months later the relationship fell apart so I had to leave it and return home, got another job where I was made redundant 3 months in, got another job and was made redundant again a year later. Got another job that I loved and 18 months in the pandemic hit and I was told I was I was facing redundancy again. Thankfully my job ended up saved in the end by the furlough scheme, but god all of it has left me with a fear of making big financial commitments because I always feel like I’m just waiting for the inevitable next time. These were all different industries too!

It’s really shit OP. Sorry to hear you’re experiencing it too.

Do you need to switch sectors or think about retraining. We're you set on a career path. Are you starting out or mid career or later. All factors it might be good to explore.
