Asked about AI in interview?

I’m an AI specialist in a large bank and I’m interested to know whether people have been asked about AI familiarity and use in interviews.
The reason is that I had an idea to provide a short course for women locally looking for work, probably mid career professionals as I am 52 and understand that the market can be quite difficult.
I would really appreciate it if anyone has any ideas about whether this could be helpful - it could be pitched at different levels eg. Don’t use any AI currently, use a bit for personal
but not at work, have used at work but would like to become more experienced/sophisticated with use.
Be happy to chat to anyone in this situation as well to understand the need.

There’s already a lot out there on YouTube etc. you would need a USP assuming you are going to be selling this as a course?

it was more like something that could run at the library or community centre not as a money making exercise.
the idea would be you would have a quick chat to gauge your readiness and then have a series of short modules suited to your level including some practical sessions.

I think this sounds great! Not everyone is up for searching out things on YouTube and if you have questions that would be very helpful

It would be nice to learn alongside people in that you could share learning but I guess people my want to be private about looking for a job potentially.

I’d be interested to know how employers differentiate. I know you have to declare it on some applications. I’d be worried about applying in my own words if l was up against AI. Also our organisation (and lots of others) sift with AI. I think this is a bad idea. I was actually told key words to use by a potential manager who asked me to apply for a role , I didn’t even get an interview. Obviously may have been other reasons but she asked me to apply.

Yes for the application process there are several prompts that can help tweak your cv without rewriting it into something you wouldn’t even recognise.
Is your organisation pushing the use of an AI on a day to day basis? There is an increasing expectation in lots of companies I see expecting some familiarity across a lot of roles not just technical ones.

It sounds like a good idea. I’m mid-50s and not currently looking for work. The company I work for is very keen on AI so I’ve learned a lot but still feel like I have big gaps. For someone who hasn’t been working with it at all (or someone like me, who doesn’t know what they don’t know) I think a short course would be really helpful.

it could be useful even outside of job hunting I don’t think about that. There is always more to learn it is moving so fast, I’d be interested to know any particular topics you thought would help.
Theres a women’s business network in my area that might run it I guess. Must have too much time on my hands whilst Brownies are on school holidays haha

I think maybe for me it would be knowing which LLM would be best for which type of work. I’ve used Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and ChatGPT and still don’t know really. I use Claude most at the moment but only the chat section, which I use for research, merging pdfs, creating images for LinkedIn, shaping text for proposals. I don’t know how or when I’m supposed to use Code - I tried it for creating an image but it wasn’t as good as the one that the Chat section made.

I guess I’m saying an overview of all basics. I know there are videos out there but then I have to find time to find the right video.

I see a real need for taking away the fear of it for some people. Of my colleagues, some use AI all the time in various ways, others not at all. I conducted interviews recently where we asked candidates about their familiarity with AI and there was a real range ot answers, not necessarily sex/age related.

It has occurred to me that this would also be invaluable for people returning to the workplace after mat leave, as the use of AI has grown exponentially in the 9 months someone may have been off.

Oh yes great point @PomPomChatton it was bad enough going back after kids for me without AI in the mix!
Sounds like you are quite experienced @VideoVox but it’s seems to me like they have misnamed the ‘code’ element in Claude as effectively you still prompt it even if it has software capabilities it can also be used for chat, automation, scripting etc.
Its also difficult to keep up with all the models as it seems like we are in an arms race just now so one focus can be to ensure you work remains largely model agnostic. You don’t want be fixed to one vendor if their prices go up exponentially!
