What working pattern would you choose?

Just starting a new job and have the option of how I spread my working hours. Whichever one I choose, it will stay like that for the academic year. Family context 2 primary aged school children- (1 with SEN). I leave the house at 3:05pm to do the school run. Both options mean I can pick them up from school 3 afternoons a week (huge positive) but would which working pattern be better suited to the rest of house /family life. Ideally my non working time would be for a weekly swim, food shopping, house cleaning & any SEN related appointments.

Option 1: Monday & Tue 8:30am- 11:30am, 8:30-3pm Friday and long days Wed & Thurs.

Option 2: Mon, Tues & Frid 8:30am-12:30. Wed & Thurs long days.

I’d do the second because it’s easier for me to plan if my work days are all a similar length and three full afternoons off a week would suit me better than varying finish times. It also means I’m not having to constantly remind people that I finish at 11.30 on this day and 3.00 another day.

Your colleagues would probably like you more with option 1. Being available for part of Friday afternoon.

Option 2 is easier for meal times being consistent and not having to have three meals a week away from home. I'd choose option 2 for that reason.

Option 2 would work better for me with primary children. Things in our school often happen in a Friday afternoon if we invite parents in so that would work best

Option 2 because it gives you a few hours child-free after the longer working days, and before the weekend begins, to do anything that's cropped up Weds-Friday

Option 2. I think you'll appreciate having Friday afternoons free more than the odd extra hour on other days.

Option 2

You will be tired on Fridays after the 2 long days

Option 2 would give you more flexibility I think, if you can fit your swim between 12.30 and school pick up.
