Nepotism of the nth degree

I am working for a small company for about a year. I have a LOT of experience in consulting. All was going well but I am now working on a project with a client who is friends with a senior person at work. The company has been a nightmare to work with and I was not getting what I needed from them. I mentioned it to the ‘friend’ in my company who told me to escalate which I did. Then of course they escalated me saying I’m not communicating well and now I’m the one being criticised and being given ‘support’ to help with my communication skills. I feel
humiliated as I’ve been a consultant over 35 years.
i am looking for other jobs as this company seems to fire at random and I don’t want to feel unsafe I’m going to lose my job every week. I’ve taken it gracefully with my manager but feels like there is nepotism going on! WWYD?

I'd leave once I'd found another job. With all your years of experience I'm sure you'll find a new role quickly

How annoying! Yes I'd be looking for another job. One of the outside consultancy services we need is absolutely useless. They only reply sometimes and often don't answer everything asked. Then when mistakes are pointed out to them they just ignore it!!

The owner is a cousin of one of the directors in my company......

But my direct manager agrees they are useless and I only need to deal with them once a month
