Taking sick leave due to MH

I’m working out a contract which ends in a few weeks. It’s a part time role so not many actual days left to complete. I was asked to reinterview to renew the fixed term contract but didn’t get it.

I have been struggling with the role and a difficult job search for a number of months and am having difficulties with anxiety and depression as a result (I have pre existing tendency to both). I have begin talking therapy and started medication. But it’s early days for both.

I am honestly not sure how I can continue in what has become a toxic situation. However how bad will it look if I miss the final few weeks of this contract?

Do you have anything else lined up ? Do you need a reference from them?

Do what’s right for your health, not your cv

Nothing lined up. Yes I need a reference…

Always put your health first. If you are struggling take some time off.

You can always go back to leave your handover notes closer to the date your contract is due to end.

It is a temp contract, does not seem to suit you and they decided not to offer you a permanent role. Frankly in this case I don't think you should feel guilty about taking the rest you need.

Antidepressants take a couple of weeks at least to start to work and make a difference so a break from work would help you wait until things stabilise.

What is toxic about it? You haven’t described anything toxic and presumably if you wanted the permanent job you weren’t upset by anything at that point?

I would just be honest with them that you need to prioritise your health and then give them a week notice.
