Secondment issues

I'm 3 months into a 12 month secondment.
The work is going very well, positive feedback etc, but it's boring.
The team had an interim manager when I joined them, she was covering maternity leave, she's now moved to a permanent role and we've been given another 'interim' for the rest of the maternity cover (which finishes at the same time as my secondment) but the new manager is currently on sick leave which keeps being extended.
It just feels like a waste of time but I'm unsure what to do about it, I suppose I could ask to end the secondment but that presumably looks bad on me rather than looking bad on the current team for constant changes of management. I've had no guidance as to how to improve the type of work I'm given (it's a support role so very dependent on the people I'm supporting giving me work to do which one of them isn't keen on)
Nobody seems to be able to say when my next 1:1 is or when we can expect to meet the new manager, we're being 'covered' by a more senior person who is already covering 2 other teams so she won't have time for anything other than workload management.
Any ideas ?

Could you take the opportunity to step up and take on more senior or interesting work?
