I got promoted today

Anonymous as I can't tell anyone IRL yet (have told my DP!) as HR need to send the letter and process it on the system.

I got promoted today. I'm now a Director. I'm 38, female with 2 young children (8 & 6). I work 4 days pw but am on call on the 5th day - this working pattern has been in place since I started.

Feels like going back full-time when DC1 was 9 months old and working like a trojan through my 2nd pregnancy during lockdown right up to giving birth and all the years since then while most of my "Mum friends" went very part-time has finally paid off!

Lmnop22 · 04/06/2026 20:57

This is very inspirational that you achieved so much with young children and at such a young age! You should be very proud of yourself because you had every ready excuse not to push yourself and you did it anyway ❤️

Toomuchadmins · 04/06/2026 20:57

Congratulations!

Changeduser123 · 04/06/2026 21:01

Thank you.

I cannot tell you how many times I was jealous of my friends working part-time or staying at home and worrying I was missing so much of my children and wondering if I was making the right choices.

It has been impossibly hard at times. Although I would have been a terrible SAHP so that would have been much harder for me. I really admire parents who manage to look after young children 24/7.

Well done OP.

It's really good to hear that all your hard work has paid off.

All best wishes to you in your new role.

Changeduser123 · 04/06/2026 21:15

It has only really been possible by having a partner who also works 4 days pw and therefore splitting house and parenting pretty much 50/50.

We have a cleaner, a dog walker and someone who cuts the lawn. No grandparents/family help so have to use after school club and holiday club.

Haha. That's totally me. Need to relax and enjoy it for a bit first. My actual role isn't going to change that much, it's more a recognition of my remit having grown over the last few months years.
