How do you switch off at weekends?

I have been through a few years of not being able to switch off fully from work at weekends. I constantly feel I should be working, using the time to catch up and get ahead and I often do. This is not something that is expected but in busy and stressful times it has been the only way to make it work. Even if I don’t work I am thinking about it and struggle to switch off.

How do others deal with this? Is it the norm to work on weekends? TIA

I am sometimes like this OP as I have a stressful job but it comes in waves.

Do you have children because going about the weekend having to look after them and and ferrying them about is a big distraction. I usually make the time to have tea with my elderly parents at some point over the weekend as well.

I find doing household chores like laundry with an audiobook helps me switch off while getting some jobs done!

Also, I find that if I push work to one side and promise myself I will use Sunday evening to catch up this usually works. I give myself permission to leave it until Sunday evening. By the time Sunday evening comes around I’ve stopped caring so much so I either think “oh it doesn’t matter I can do this on Monday” or I spend 30 mins preparing for the week or finishing off something to put me in a good position.

I think if you’ve had a very intense week its hard to shelve it on Friday.

Thanks @chocolateaddictionsI try to keep busy, DCs are older and need less of my time so trying to make time for myself but my default is always I should be working.
