Managers talking about colleagues conversations on teams

Managers have been talking on teams when colleagues (who they line manage and junior to them) allay their concerns about a certain task in the office. Their conversation has been in an 'not this again', maybe minimalising feelings around it I think and maybe taking the piss out of us for talking about it so frequently, but I for one have massive anxiety about this and talking to colleagues who feel the same is helpful. This task is challenging and time consuming and causes a lot of anxiety amongst some colleagues so talking about it openly is a way of coping with this. Aibu to feel their behaviour is poor?

Your post barely makes sense

You asked a question, I answered.

Managers talking together? At the same time as you are talking to them? Separately?

Sorry, they message each other on there.

There is a lot of “maybe” and “I think” in your post. It sounds like you don’t actually know what they are saying.

Presumably if it’s necessary for you to talk to colleagues to alleviate stress, the same goes for your managers?

That’s what Teams is for. It’s a messaging app. A messaging app is used to send messages. That’s what they’re doing.

Managers can vent to other managers. It would only be inappropriate if they were complaining about a member of their team to other members of their team.

MiaKulper · 09/05/2026 14:49

How do you know what the managers are discussing?

"Managers have been talking on teams when colleagues (who they line manage and junior to them) allay their concerns about a certain task in the office."

Do you mean when colleagues relay their concerns? Allay doesn't make sense in the context of what you've said next.

"This task is challenging and time consuming and causes a lot of anxiety amongst some colleagues so talking about it openly is a way of coping with this."

Also, isn't this basically what you're criticising the managers for doing with their peers?

No because they're talking about us and our conversations. We're not talking about any other people.

Possibly.

I honestly don’t know what you’re are asking.

For managers, the people are the tasks though. How do you propose they discuss that without talking about people. And how do you even know what they're talking about?

Allaying concerns means reducing or soothing someone's concerns.

Relaying concerns means sharing or passing the information on.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 09/05/2026 21:29

How do you know for certain that this is happening? Perhaps they are seeking advice and guidance from other people who are familiar with the situation?

Haribosweets · 10/05/2026 17:18

OP - how do you know the managers are talking about you / team members? Do you overhear them on calls or are you sat by at least one of them and can see their screen?
Managers do this all the time and will say things like 'not this again' but its to themselves only and privately. So how do you know that this was said?
