Hi, I’m a food technician. As with any interview for a school position I would familiarise yourself with the school’s safeguarding policy and be prepared for questions around that. In terms of job specific ones you might get questions about prioritising your day, why do you think food is taught in schools, how would you interact with and support students, allergen awareness, food safety, how would you deal with an accident in the classroom, how do you see yourself supporting the teacher.

Have they said whether there is going to be a practical exercise in your interview? If there is then typical things they may ask you to do would be to set up a demo for a teacher, check and clear a fridge that has been set up for the interview, calculate the quantity of ingredients that need to be bought for a particular recipe and then calculate the costings.

I hope that helps. Good luck in your interview!

Hello thank you for taking the time out to respond, i've worked in a high school setting before and have experience of working in a school kitchen too as a catering assistant/ school baker so I'm aware of temperatures, allergen awareness and how important safeguarding is when keeping Children Safe. And what's expected from children behaviour wise in a school setting.

Practicals am not so sure of, if I sent a email to enquire about any Practicals for.the interview would I be told or is it a kind of on the spot thing. Any tips would be appreciated for the Practicals.

Many thanks
