Would you apply for a temporary internal role in this circumstance?

An internal role has come up for 6 months, it’s slightly more money. But it would finish at the end of that 6 months as the current job holder is doing some project work and will definitely return.

However, my current permanent role is doing through some big changes, which will come to light later this year, so I worry I would be putting myself in a vulnerable position if i vacated it for 6 months. I know others who have done this and their job has been made redundant or been changed in their absence. As I would have to go back to my job after 6 months, I worry about what I would have to go back to.

Advice would be welcome. If it was a permanent role I would jump at it.

No, I absolutely wouldn't. I'd assume your current role would either be filled or restructured and you'd be out of a job. It would be an easy, cheap, win for a company trying to save money.

I wouldn't risk it in those circumstances, no.

Can you apply for it as a secondment? That way you can go back to your original role at the end of the contract.
