Occ health wobbles

I have some chronic long term conditions and need to attend a pre-employment occ health check (they don't know any specific details). I'm terrified. I managed most of my career with no reasonable adjustments in place however was recommended some by occupational health in my last role following a significant illness. As soon as the report was provided my manager bullied and harassed me out of my role with comments about the impact on the team and then. I didn't have a significant sickness history and was a very high performer and I think it was rooted in jealousy.

How do I approach this next OH appointment. Is there any advice on the legal minimum I need to declare if I don't want to request reasonable adjustments?

You dont have to declare any conditions you dont want to unless they could impact any H&S aspect of the role to ensure you and others are kept safe, in that case you are obliged to inform them. Otherwise no you have no obligation to inform them.

Thanks. The person said "any aspect of your health that might affect your work or be impacted by your work" which just covers so many things. Maybe I'm taking it too literally. With an unpredictable long term condition I can't say how my health might be in 6 months/10 years time...

I always advise people not to volunteer more about your health than you need to. However if you are asked specific questions about your health do not lie. With most organisations this could be a sackable offence if it’s later discovered you had a condition you knew about but didn’t disclose when asked specifically eg if your asked if you have a history of respiratory conditions and you say no when you actually have 2 inhalers prescribed!

At the Occ health appointment they’ll likely just make sure any conditions you have are well managed and not going to cause a lot of absence. Also they can recommend any adjustments needed.
Dont worry about it, I’m sure it’ll be fine

It was fine. The new potential employer sent me to occ health who advised I had two conditions (thought it just the one but it’s two) under the equality act and amazing how the hell did I go to work so quickly after a flesh eating bug but I’m ok.

They said they found me fit to work and what would have the new employer offering a foot rest. It is a darn sight more then the current employer could be bothered.
