Are basic references with dates and reason for leaving acceptable now?

Hi I have been offered a job and have two references. One detailed and the other most recent will just be a basic one with dates and confirmation of reason for leaving. Is this now acceptable for most jobs or do they want detailed references? Public service role.

I think that’s quite normal for work references.

Completely standard in my industry.

Yes, quite normal and has been for many years now. They’ll tell you if your reference isn’t good enough. In a lot of cases there’ll be DBS checks or similar too.

I've only ever been asked to give very basic ones for the last few years. Makes my life a lot easier as I have a big team!
