Any freelance virtual assistants able to share how they started out?

Are there any Virtual Assistants on here?

I’m looking to set myself up as Freelance VA.
But I’m wondering if I have enough skills. I just wanted to focus on diary management, typing, calls. I’ve seen employment agencies looking for freelance VA’s, I thought this might be a good way to start.

What do other VA’s offer? Was it straightforward to start up?

What do you mean when you say typing? The VA I knew was very good at Excel, word and PowerPoint. I think that would be the minimum expected. She also produced a newsletter for a client so used something like publisher or some kind of graphics package – I’m not sure on the details.

I think you need to be able to offer a decent level of expertise on those main packages.

I’m proficient in Word, my PowerPoint and Excel are a little rusty. So an update in those areas is needed.
