Only for internal moves. So prob depends on the context of your question

12 years ago, mid 40s, I was made redundant after 25 years in the same company.

I applied for a temp role in another company, 1hr chat with the team lead, no HR, they had been looking for a while and were just happy I had some relevant experience to backfill someone and I was immediately available so I didn’t need to do all the capability nonsense interview questions. Started as soon as paperwork was completed.

While there I applied for a bigger permanent role in another area, they again had had problems filling with right skillset and I had another 1hr informal chat about my experience and was again offered role before temp contract ended.

Our business team was then reorganised into IT and given new roles (and a year later significant pay rises!). I was offered promotion to a leading global team heading up global projects (no interview) but turned it down (would have required significant travel to shit, very hot, places and mid 50s menopausal me can’t be bothered with the stress).

All just fell into place (obviously I work hard and have strong reputation), right place right time. Which is just as well as I am shit at interviews.

My last job with a charity. I applied for a voluntary role and my application caught the eye of the Operations Director. I got invited in for an informal chat about a paid role and they decided they liked me. I stayed 15 years.

I worked at a paintball place on weekends whilst at Uni. They asked if I liked KFC and if I could do Saturdays when I called them to apply. That was it I was in.

Agency job in a factory the agency asked if I had my own safety boots and if I needed to borrow some what size feet do I have? They must have had boots in my size as I got the job.

My past 4 jobs I haven’t even sent a CV or applied. First one I knew them vaguely through local politics, bumped into them, they asked what I was planning to do now the kids were at school - I said ‘very little’ they asked me to go for a coffee, checked we got on and that led to me working with them for 7 years as a political adviser. I was offered the next three by people I worked with in that first role. I’m now quite senior in industry and politically adjacent. I have been lucky (but have always made my own luck)

My last three jobs.
I was head hunted each time.

Sorry, not what you want to hear.

A memorable interview - my first job, as a music label - involved my future boss getting me ‘screened’ in the office, sent to her house where she quizzed me about what music I liked and whether I did coke. I clearly passed both tests and had a wild first post uni year with lots of bands and no drugs 😅
