Does anyone work at a council that’s been through the local government changes?

Lots of councils are changing in the coming years as part of local government reorganisation.

Has anyone been through this and were lots of jobs cut after it happened?

I’m really annoyed about it. My LA went for a pragmatic let’s get on with it approach when we got the decision and lots of roles were put in place to support. People have quit other jobs and moved to these etc. Money has been spent, lots of it!

I hope the government reimburses us as we are already broke.

Also gutted as we barely have any office space and I had my eye on one of the district council offices to work from when we merged.

@Blockednoses My LA became unitary in 2020! Planning for some years before that. Why on earth other LAs have been so slow is a mystery. Somewhat incompetent and self serving perhaps? It’s been imperative for years now. In the current year we’ve lost £44 million from the government and spend 3/4 of the budget on statutory services so non statutory services are always under threat of cuts. We struggle to balance priorities and most statutory services are struggling - certainly recruiting social workers! This is why ultimately saving money matters.
