Salary expectations

How do you work out what to put when an application form asks for your salary expectations (mandatory field)? Promotion advertised internally, but private company so salaries negotiated individually and a closely guarded secret. Have tried searching for similar roles online but the few I’ve found just state ‘competitive salary’.

I don’t, does it need number in the field or can you add text to put TBD or similar?

I agree with PP re employer red flag, but as it's internal and if it really can't be avoided, you must have some idea of what you're hoping the job will pay. Put that and add 10%
