Fixed term contract ending.

I am coming to the end of a fixed term contract. It was originally for one year and then extended by another three. At some point I left to go to another job but quickly returned, I was gone only one month. Not sure if they classed this as a break in service.
Original contract was now due to end at the end of march but they now want me to stay until the end of April.
I never expected any redundancy pay due to it being a fixed term contract but my manager keeps saying " I may get a bit of redundancy pay" and that there would be a consultation period. HR have not started any consultation process so far.
I am desperate to leave. The job causes me a lot of stress and I can't sleep at night. I am thinking of just sticking to the original end date at the end of March. I have not signed any extension of contract despite my manager keeps saying this is coming. I guess I'm just worried about missing out on any redundancy pay as at this stage, with no job to go to, any small amount of money is helpful.
Can any HR people advise whether, if I was going to get any redundancy pay then should the consultation have started by now ? Charity sector.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Ask for the redundancy policy, or check if this is covered in your contract. If there isn’t any information from them then you would need to look at statutory redundancy which you need 2 years service to qualify for.
