Redundant but having to work notice

Has anyone else been in this situation? We've gone through a restructure at work and as a result I am being made redundant.

I have a 3 month notice period and have been told I need to work this - but my job will no longer exist so I have no idea what I'm actually going to be doing for 12 weeks. Or who is going to be line managing me.

Management are refusing to budge. I'm feeling stressed about the whole situation, not just about being made redundant but also about having to work for 3 months alongside colleagues who have secured posts in the new structure. Has anyone successfully challenged this and been allowed "gardening leave" or similar?

I'd just see it as having a three month paid grace period to look for a new job. I had a meeting today in which I was told my contract is now ending on 31st March. Thankfully I already knew this might be the case when I took the role on and I'm in a job where I can find work within a week or so if desperate.

However, in last conversation they'd said it might be postponed for six months so still a bit annoying as have a holiday planned which would've been better spent securing another contract.

Yes, they can do this. But you can also do the bare fucking minimum and there's shit all they can do about that, so long as you aren't being deliberately subversive.

Very normal to have to work, I’ve even had to train my successor when the company relocated

Yes I've had to do this and actually it was fine. Finished everything up, handed over, was able to use some time to look for new roles.
