Probation staff safety awareness

Anola32 · 05/02/2026 06:25

I have seen another post regarding raising awareness of the safety for probation staff. There were two attacks on probation staff last year and already one in 2026. There was minimal information regarding both serious incidents last year and zero information to date regarding the attack in 2026. How is it possible to keep things so hidden especially from staff who are already scared 😩

I think the thread you’re talking about is mine. It go minimal interest really, no one cares! I do feel that it’s a massive cover up, I haven’t even heard of an attack in 2026 😵😵, what happened??

ScaryTimes · 05/02/2026 10:34

Although maybe you don’t know either! It’s the dishonesty that’s the worst.

I literally have no idea what happened at all. Odd how it can be kept from everyone if it was a serious incident

@Anola32 I’m not surprised though!

I am a little disappointed that not one other person on MN is interested though 🙁.

There needs to be some sort of forum for staff and family members/friends or something

I wonder how many of us there are on MN? TBH I think people who work in probation are scared to make their views public as we’ve been threatened so much! I’ve noticed there are never any comments on Napo’s FB posts, even though there is seething anger in the office.

I imagine people are scared of managers being on there 😔

I don't know how this holds out, but it has been said in meetings I have been in that they are trying to avoid a lot of publicity to avoid promoting copy-cat attacks while the extra protections are being put into place.

So then that means hiding everything throughout the pilots as most offices aren't having any significant extra measures put in place whereby people actually feel safer.
Seems everything is being well hidden whilst pay negotiations take place.

All we’ve had is a space made where the lockers will go one day… 🙈.

And don’t get me started on the pay negotiations 😡😡😡. I have certainly voted no!

Also these “pilots” are an insult. How do they need to pilot safety measures for their staff? And they don’t even begin until March/ April (I’ve seen conflicting dates), which is nearly a year after the Preston attack. Then they’ll have to give them time, report on the findings, waste a bit more time, and maybe implement some measures if they’re financially viable.

Perhaps they could use some of the £100 million excess that they’ve go due to understaffing to fund them faster??

OddBoots · 07/02/2026 11:23

I am sure they will throw a few R&Rs around like crumbs.

All that could go towards the pay rise but they will say oh that is from a different pot we can't use that!

@Anola32 I hadn’t but I am local to the area and had to find out wha happened via the Lancashire Police Facebook page and unfortunately saw the video that was release. It’s horrifying. Well done to Natasha for speaking out and I hope she continues to recover physically and psychologically and also sues HMPPS for every penny she can.

I am sorry you found out that way. That is awful.
I am glad she got to put things across in her words. Very brave that's for sure. I hope she gets the support her and her family need to be able to help her tecover too
