Employer ignoring Reference requests - Help!

NC and posting on behalf of my DS.

My DS has been employed for 12 months and has decided to leave to venture into something different. He has a job offer.

He has resigned and has offered an extra notice period of two weeks, which has been accepted.

Here is the thing…. His current employer isn’t giving him a reference. The new employer has contacted the current employer every day since last Monday and they just aren’t doing it! My DS is also contacting them and asking and nothing.

What can he do? Help!

Would the employer accept HMRC verification that he was employed from x date? Some do so if might be worth asking new employer x

He has provided lots of documentation to
prove identity has a reference from another job and a character reference. I suspect the failure of the current employer reference is making them think there is a problem. There isn’t one. DS has been offered a pay rise to stay.

@trynnahide I will ask him to suggest that though - Thank you very much.

Does he have written evidence of them offering a pay rise to stay ( or coujd he get written evidence). He coujd tgen use this to show new employer tgst he believes they’re trying to scupper his chances of new job

Yes he has a message offering pay rise and saying it’s disappointing he has resigned.
