Do you enjoy it? What are the best bits? The worst? Does it pay enough? I’m trying to decide whether to go ahead and get the qualification. I’d want to teach online from home. I’d be grateful for any thoughts or experiences.

I did CELTA 20 years ago - full time over a month or so - and then taught in Japan and Poland. Back before “online” was a thing!

don’t regret a moment. But these days the market will be very saturated especially as an online teacher where in some ways you’re competing with the various excellent language learning apps. I’m not sure where you’d start to build a business other than there must be companies that employ EFL teachers to teach remotely across different time zones etc.

Thank you for your post @Clearinguptheclutter
I think there are online platforms that match tutors to students but I need to look into this more. I was wondering about the competition from apps too.
Did you teach abroad for a long time or was it short term contracts?

Hello. I hope it's ok to jump in on this thread as it's relevant.

I am currently studying for my MA TESOL and was hoping a few of you who do TEFL wouldn't mind sparing 5-8 minutes for help with my dissertation research.

I have a short questionnaire about classroom practice that it would be a great help if you could fill out.

TESOL Teachers’ Perspectives on Language Retention and Classroom Practice – Fill in form

forms.microsoft.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=2rIgA90iq02MIW5kS6FPExNLxr06cmFLiQAdXo9CCzFUMEREWUoySk5MUVBWWkI5UzFPWUM3MVE2Ti4u

Participation is voluntary and anonymous.
No identifying information will be collected.
You do not even have to log in to your account to complete the form.
The data will automatically be put into a pool and form charts for me to use in my study.

I am looking for TESOL teacher’s opinions on methods and so on, So I would really appreciate honest answers. There’s nobody we need to impress by knowing what we’re supposed to say. Which is another reason for keeping this all anonymous.

Many thanks to anyone who is able to help!
