My fixed term contract is ending in a couple of months. Up until now I've been very calm about it. I don't like current job much and it's stressful and I shan't miss it ( except my lovely colleagues ). Plan was to take the summer off then rethink in the Autumn.
This week however I've started to panic. I'm late 50's and feel that finding a new job is going to be hard.
I know there's loads of others in this situation currently and people seem to be losing their jobs all over the place which is panicking me more. I have a ds who is going to be graduating this summer and will be moving home and is likely to need some support with job hunting ( social anxiety etc). .
I guess I'm just looking for ideas and people who have managed to get another job at this age.
I worked for 35 years as a Nurse but let my registration lapse when I changed career several years ago. Since then I've been doing advice work./benefits/ social care etc. It would be hard in my area to find another similar job, there are whole teams of advisors losing their jobs. My computer/ IT skills aren't great. I manage on the systems of my current role as they are simple but new things get me easily stressed.
I'm happy enough to do care work or domicillary care work but am quite unfit ( I know I need to work on this ). Just not sure if they will take people my age?
I need to earn about 1k a month to tick over until I can take NHS pension at 60. Thankfully a husband whose still earning and mortgage paid off.
Any thoughts appreciated.
