I’m 32 and I’ve recently discovered that I really enjoy painting and decorating. I really want to learn more. I’ve done a few small jobs at my workplace and I absolutely love it, but my main job is cleaning, and that’s really all they want me doing. I’ve told them how much I enjoy decorating, but there aren’t any chances to progress in that area whilst in this job, so I’m hoping to find a job that I actually enjoy and could eventually earn well from.
I’ve saved up for a course, and I know that’s just a starting point, but it feels like a good way to get going. There’s a female decorator not too far away who’s fully booked, which makes me think, in the future, there’s definitely a demand for it, especially with lots of older people in my village who feel more comfortable having a woman in their home as I've been told by people on my dog walks. I have a young daughter, but I could work around school clubs and my partner does the morning drop offs, so it seems manageable.
I’d love to hear from any mums who have gone into painting and decorating. How did you get started, do you enjoy it? and any tips for someone looking to learn more and turn it into a proper job? Any advice or experiences would be so helpful.
