Anyone (or their adult kids) do freelance coding? How do you get into it?

DS is partway through a Computer Science degree and would like to earn some extra money coding - is there a good way to get into it?

Would be really grateful for any tips or recommendations 🙏.

(I know that he should also be proactive in looking into this himself, and hopefully he will be. But he has ASD and being proactive isn't always his thing. He does work hard if it's clear to him what he should be doing.)

My DS did unfortunately I can’t ask him at the. Moment, I think his university arranged it as a summer job.

Does he have a specialism? - there are loads of different languages and niches.

Someone else I know did some volunteer work and they occasionally get referrals off the back of that.

I knew of someone who did freelance projects based on Ruby(?) (I think that is what he does) He was active on forums, shared things on GitHub and LinkedIn.

WordPress developers go to WordCamp(s) and there are local events.

There's a forum type place for pretty much everything - would suggest he seeks out ones that are relevant for the type of coding he's into.

Essentially he has to network either online or in person or some kind of mixture of both.
