Are career advisor services worth it?

I originally got my degree and Masters in a very specific field. It was something I never really broke into and ended up leaving completely a few years ago to start a family. To get back into it I would have to start again and I really don't want to be stuck in low paying roles for many years whilst volunteering on the off chance I get a better job in this field.
I currently work as Clinical Support for the NHS as it was a role they did in house training for. Its Band 4 and I can only progress higher by going back to university something I'm not interested in.
I just feel lost with what to do with my career. I have good qualifications and skills but I just dont know how to match it to anything. I thought about paying to go to a career advisor but wasn't sure if it was worth it. Has anyone used one? Was it worth it? Any advice on how to find a new career?
I just feel so lost.

Have you thought about trying the National Careers Service before paying privately?

I’ve made an appointment to see a careers advisor through them, so I don’t yet know how useful it will be, but I figured it was worth a try.

Another option is to talk to a few recruiters in your field (but don’t give them your CV yet) to see what types of roles they tend to match to people with your background. I find this can be a good way of considering roles I hadn’t thought of and to sound them out on what trends they’re seeing in the market.

Obviously just keep in mind that they might say you’d be the perfect candidate for a role they just happen to be trying to fill! But there are plenty of good and non-pushy recruiters out there too (I have a few I trust and keep in touch with), so it’s worth speaking to a few different ones.
